Is it safe to buy Instagram followers?
Short answer
It is safe in the sense that your life won't really change, but there are risks that come with it. Buying followers is against Instagram's terms of service. It's extremely rare that an account gets manual action for it, so rare that we would almost guarantee it won't happen to you. But by buying followers, you do give Instagram an actual reason to ban you. If they want to ban you over a post or anything else, they will.
What the rules say
| Rule | What it says | Who it reaches | What it can cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Instagram Terms of Use | It's not allowed, and it's a reason for penalties. | Every account, anywhere. | Your account in very extreme cases. But mostly, if you buy too much or produce bad content, buying followers can completely tank your account because of the much lower reach. It tells Instagram that your content is not worth watching, and they will never promote it to anyone but your followers. |
| US FTC | Since 2024, the law prohibits purchasing followers for inauthentic business practices. | If you're buying followers for your business in the US, you might get in legal trouble and pay fines. If you're in the US, make sure you're buying for personal or hobby use at least. | Paying thousands of dollars for a shortcut. |

When not to buy
- If your account is already completely dead, buying followers will not rescue you. You might have some followers already, or maybe none, and you post something and it gets zero likes and zero views.
- If you get extremely lucky, purchasing multiple services like followers, likes and views may give Instagram a signal to push your posts further. But Instagram has very good detection algorithms for this, so even if you're smart with your purchases, it won't revive a dead account. It will just make a dead account look more alive.
- If you want the dead account to have the potential of becoming a big organic account in the future, first try to push it out of the dead zone using posts. So post good stuff.
- Only after you start getting good reach and a good engagement rate, start buying followers slowly to boost your numbers. Just dumping a giant amount of followers will tank your account if you're not smart about it.
Questions
Can you get banned for buying Instagram followers?
It is extremely rare, because people could use followers to get their competitors banned. But it is against Instagram's terms of service and may be used as a reason to ban you.
Is buying Instagram followers illegal?
In most countries, it is legal. But check your actual local law, because some countries do prohibit inauthentic behavior, since it may be seen as you trying to trick people.
Can Instagram detect bot followers?
Yes. That's why many services provide slower speeds, to make it seem more organic. Instagram will still know, but they're less likely to take action than on a dumped amount of followers. Instagram also does regular purges. You can buy the highest quality of followers ever, but at the end of the day, Instagram always improves their systems. It's a constant cat and mouse game, and the followers will one day be gone.
Will bot followers unfollow?
Yes. It's not a human going in and unfollowing, but Instagram will remove them as part of their purges. The amount depends completely on what Instagram feels like that day. For most of the year, retention rates are around 70% for most sellers. But there are extreme purge periods where retention rates crash to 0 to 10%. So if you're insanely unlucky, your purchase could be gone tomorrow. We recommend starting with smaller orders to test the waters and see if Instagram will remove them. If they don't remove it in 7 days, you're safe to go further with your order.
